On the weekend of
November 9-10, 2013, 65 musicians, 4
stage techs, 50+ volunteers, and
hundreds of music fans came together
at the Ocean Mist in Matunuck for an
historic Rhode Island event. For two
days and nights, the music of
world-class acoustic folk artists,
award-winning Celtic musicians, a
Grammy-nominated Jump Blues
ensemble, and Platinum-selling Rock
’n’ Rollers flowed from the stage.
Maybe things are “Tough All Over,”
but for that weekend in November,
this “Complex World” seemed a
little simpler and kinder thanks to
the power of music. New friendships
were formed, old friendships were
rekindled. Everyone lent a helping
hand with no questions asked. The
Unity Concerts were born.
Founded in 2011,
the nonprofit Rhode Island Music
Hall of Fame (RIMHOF) is dedicated
to documenting and preserving Rhode
Island’s rich musical legacy and
celebrating its musicians with
annual induction ceremonies and
museum exhibits. But, RIMHOF also
recognizes the need to address the
concerns of the current members of
our musical community. In early
2012, with the guidance of the
RIMHOF Board of Directors, a new
committee brought to life the Tune
In & Tune Up Rhode Island Musicians
Health Awareness Program. This
committee is working hard to pass on
important information to raise the
level of wellness and health
awareness among our area’s
musicians, roadies, sound and
lighting techs as well as their
families. Through our specialized
website, a free membership card, a
discount retail program and
educational seminars, Tune In & Tune
Up will
continue to focus its attention on
the well-being of our musical
community.
This album was
created thanks to the generosity of
some of our area’s finest musicians.
Thank you for your support of this
important initiative and please,
help us spread the word!
